Depending on the type of terrain you like to ride on, the wheel size will vary.

If you’re into enduro, you want to switch things up with a 21/18″ set. It’s like upgrading from a flip phone to a smartphone. Better clearance, smoother rides, and more durability. Plus, you’ll have the option to use bib mousse, making punctures a thing of the past!

For those using their Ultra Bee on the road, a set of supermoto wheels (17 inches) would be a perfect match for their cruising style.

For motocross enthusiasts, a pair of 19″ wheels will be perfect. Unlike enduro riding, motocross doesn’t require extremely resilient tyres or the ability to easily tackle large obstacles.

So you’ll want to stick with the 19″ wheels. They’re all about stability and feeling the terrain underneath. Only recommendation: choose a quality set to avoid any nasty surprises mid-ride.

The Sur Ron Ultra Bee’s wheels offer a range of great advantages. First off, now you can fit “proper” motorcycle tyres.

This wheel size opens up a whole new world bigger selection, but you can also go for much wider tyres.

A wider tyre means better grip and it helps to shorten braking distances, while also smoothing out the bumps in the terrain.

But, like with anything, it’s all about finding that sweet spot. A wider tyre might mean sacrificing a bit of torque and range. That’s because wider tyres create more resistance. While they offer better grip, they also demand more traction force to keep you moving forward.

After plenty of months testing in enduro with a 21/18″ set, Cyprien’s top picks for tyre sizes are: 90/100-21 for the front and 120/90-18 for the rear.

Now, even though there are a bunch of brands offering these tyre sizes, we’re big fans of Michelin Enduro Premium. They strike the perfect balance between grip, durability, and cornering support. We don’t sell them because they’re a bit on the pricey side.

Lots of people also dig the 80/100-21 for the front wheel and 100/100-18 for the rear. While it’s not our go-to combo, it still holds up like a champ in enduro. Volcanduro, an American brand, makes some seriously top-notch tyres in these sizes.

It’s important to regularly check the spokes of your Ultra Bee’s wheels. Right after purchase, we recommend checking the spokes after each ride.

After a few rides, this step becomes less necessary as the spokes will have “settled in.” However, it’s still crucial to check them regularly and tighten them if needed.

Checking the spoke tension is a breeze: you can do it by hand if the spokes are really loose, or by lightly tapping them with a spoke wrench or Allen key. A properly tightened spoke produces a clear, crisp sound, while a loose one produces a dull sound.

A slight wobble may occur on your rims, which is normal due to the wheels enduring huge forces. To address this, spin your wheel and place a marker (pen or other) against the rim, fixing it to your fork with tape.

When a gap appears between the wheel and the marker, it indicates a wobble at that point. To reduce or eliminate it, tighten the spoke where the rim is farthest from your marker. This will bring the rim closer to the marker (right-side spokes if the wobble goes to the left, and vice versa).

Lastly, if your wheels spin poorly, make unusual noises, or whenever you’re simply removing your wheels to change the brake discs, remember to check the condition of your bearings. Despite being very sturdy and durable, bearings are still wear parts and should be inspected regularly.

There are different types of wheel cleaners out there, but most dirt cleaners will do the trick just fine.

To clean the wheels of your Ultra Bee, you can use a brush and a hose, or a pressure washer (just be careful not to get too close to the bearings to avoid damaging them). We’d recommend sticking with the brush and hose method.

Start by getting rid of the bulk of the dirt using the hose and brush, then apply the cleaning product to your wheels and let it sit 1 to 2 minutes. After that, give it another scrub with your brush, rinse it off, and you’re good to go!

For a more thorough clean, once you’ve gotten rid of most of the dirt, you can finish up by wiping with a microfiber to get rid of any small traces of dirt that the hose and brush might have missed.

The first difference between these three brands lies in the market they target. KKE aims at the entry-level market, offering decent quality rims at a reduced cost. In contrast, Excel and SM Pro target the high-end market, providing superior quality compared to KKE.

SM Pro, much like Excel, enjoys numerous partnerships in the world of MX and enduro. It’s not uncommon to see riders with SM Pro rims during championships. This popularity is partly due to SM Pro equipping renowned brands such as Yamaha, Honda, and KTM.

Overall, opinions generally agree that Excel offers slightly superior quality to SM Pro, especially in terms of durability on heavier bikes like the Ultra Bee.
